This project was a personal challenge to try and build a cohesive visual language across a set of props with varying form factors and functions while refining and expanding my design fundamentals. I tried to develop a retro-futuristic aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the summers I spent as a kid at my dad’s internet café, surrounded by vintage computers and other tech.
I started small—with the handheld telegraph/radio—and worked my way up to the computer terminal. As each prop started taking shape, I would revisit earlier designs and make adjustments to reinforce stylistic continuity across the set. It was interesting and valuable to work with restrictions and see the style take shape.
As with all my projects, I also spent some time playing with graphic design in the end. This time I expanded that further with trying to design some grounded screen UI.
Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback and notes along the way, I had a great time working on this!
